Start herePlaces that always need hands
Food
Food banks and church pantries sort, pack and deliver every week. Two hours, no experience. Search your county’s food bank; it will be the first result.
Beach and waterway cleanups
Cleanups run all along this coast, usually Saturday morning. Always short-handed, and the kids can come. Check your city’s parks-and-rec calendar.
Libraries and schools
Reading buddies, homework help, one afternoon a week. Ask at the desk; they will not turn you away.
Animal rescue
Dog walking, fostering, transport runs. Transport especially, because it is a couple of hours in your own car and almost nobody signs up for it.
