The answers that did not fit on a card
How a price on a card got there. Every section stands on its own, so read the one you came for.
The workHow a listing earns its place
- Read
Somebody opens the venue's own page and takes the price, the hours and the date from it. Nothing arrives by feed.
- Priced
What an adult pays, what a child pays, at what ages, and any military rate the venue publishes.
- Stamped
The card prints the day of the reading. If there is no published price, the card says so rather than guessing.
- Kept
Past events drop off on their own, and the sweep goes back around.
More than four hundred listings have come through those steps.
The stampWhat the stamp on a card means
A card stamped Verified was read off the venue's own page on the date printed beside it. A card stamped Sourced has a named source and no date, which is usually a place that has not opened yet and has no page of its own to read.
The date is the part worth reading. It tells you how old the reading is, so you can weigh it yourself.
PricesWhen a venue never published a price
Some venues publish no price. Those cards say No published price and stop there. A made-up number sends a family to a gate that charges something else.
A venue that has not opened yet is a different case and reads differently. It has not withheld a price, it has not set one, so its card says the prices have not been announced.
The clockWhy last week is not still on the list
Every list is worked out from the day you open it. Last week's event comes off by itself.
It runs forward too: ninety days out walks into the next seven days, then the weekend, then today. It is also why a link somebody sent last month can land on nothing.
When we are not sureWhat happens when something cannot be confirmed
Checking means opening the exact page a fact sits on, not the venue's front door, and copying the words with the date they were read. Where they cannot be copied, the card carries an estimate that says so.
Money, and who qualifies for a rate, want two independent records, and neither may be quoting the other. A dead or parked link is flagged rather than trusted: a live website is not proof a business is open.
Paid placementsWhat money can buy here, and what it cannot
A listing sits on the list and is earned. Anything bought sits beside the list and says so.
- A listing is never for sale. Nobody pays to be on the list, and nobody pays to be higher up it.
- Bought space needs no event. Any real business can take the strip or the block, events or not.
- A promoted card is a real event on a real date. Added, never swapped in, it says Sponsored, and it is in no total.
- Deals cannot be bought at any price. A deal earns that page by being real and checked, which is the only thing that makes the page worth opening.
Everything unlabelled was earned. The prices are on the For business page.
An hourHelp keep the list honest
Every section above describes one family reading pages. What it needs is other people catching what we missed, and an hour a month is a real contribution.
Show supportHelp keep the guide checked
One family reads every venue’s own page before a listing ships, and no reader is ever charged for any of it. If this guide has earned a place in your weekend, the Support page lists the ways to help, and most of them cost nothing.
