Around Pensacola in October
Sea turtles
Nesting season. Escambia County checks its county-owned beaches on Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key for nests every day from May 1 to October 31. At night, keep lights off on the beach: bright white light, like a phone or a flashlight, can scare a nesting turtle away.
From Escambia County.
Dolphins
Year round. Pensacola Bay and East Bay have a small resident group of bottlenose dolphins that NOAA Fisheries counts as a stock of its own.
From Marine Mammal Protected Areas Task Force.
Sharks
The state's advice is to stay out of the water at night and at twilight, when sharks are most active.
From Florida Fish and Wildlife (FWC).
Whales
The Gulf's own whale, the Rice's whale, is mostly sighted in water about 330 to 1,300 feet deep, far out in the Gulf.
From NOAA Fisheries.

One family reads every venue’s own page before a listing ships, and no reader is ever charged for any of it. If this guide has earned a place in your weekend, the Support page lists the ways to help, and most of them cost nothing.
