The coloursWhat each beach flag means

  • Green, low hazard. Calm conditions. Rip currents still run on green days.
  • Yellow, medium hazard. Moderate surf or currents. Keep the little ones in reach.
  • Red, high hazard. High surf, strong currents, or both. Some beaches close the water on red, so read the sign at the stand.
  • Double red, water closed. The water is closed to the public. That is a closure, not a strong warning.
  • Purple, marine life. Dangerous marine life has been reported. The purple flag flies below one of the warning colours and never on its own.

The flag at the lifeguard stand is the one that counts. If what you see there is different from this page, go by the stand.

Weather, tides, the UV and the water are on Pensacola Beach conditions. Other beaches from Perdido Key to Destin get their own reading later: Perdido Key, Navarre, Fort Walton and Destin.
