The University of West Florida's president emerita gives an overview of the first 250 years of the Spanish colony of Florida, from 1513 to 1763. The talk covers Spain's shifting strategies to hold the Atlantic coast and protect the gold fleets sailing from Cuba to Spain. The lecture meets downtown at the Florida Public Archaeology Network's Coordinating Center, and no pre-registration is required.
