The City of Destin has declared October 16 Bruce Cheves Day, and the Destin Fishing Rodeo marks it at the harbor docks with a celebration of the late weighmaster's 41 years at the scale. At 5:00 PM the rodeo rings the bell for the people and legends the fishing community lost this year. The rodeo's weigh-ins run on the same docks all month, so the scale is usually busy.
Before you go
- Head to the docks behind AJ's Seafood & Oyster Bar at 116 Harbor Boulevard
- Be there by 5:00 PM for the Ringing of the Bell
- Check the Destin Fishing Rodeo events page for the parking map
- Watch the weigh-ins while you wait, open daily from 10 AM to 7 PM
What we checked, and when
Read off the venue's own page on 2026-10-07.
The Destin Fishing Rodeo events page lists no admission price for this gathering. The same page says the daily weigh-ins at the docks are free and open to the public.
Not confirmed: The price. The venue publishes none, so neither do we.
The rodeo's page does not list an admission price or the exact meeting spot on the docks.
Harbor parking can fill up during peak rodeo weeks.
