The Hurlburt Field Base Library, the Youth Center and the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association set up telescopes at the Youth Center ball fields for a night of planet viewing, with astronomers on hand to help. Bring your own telescope if you have one. This is on an active Air Force installation, and the event page does not publish separate visitor access instructions.
Before you go
- Confirm you can access Hurlburt Field: a DoD ID or a sponsor is typically required for a military installation.
- Bring a telescope if you have one, or use one of theirs.
- Arrive at the Youth Center Ball Park, Fields 3 and 4, in Lil' Commando Community Park.
- Stay any time within the 4:00 to 9:00 PM window to view planets with the astronomers.
What we checked, and when
Read off the venue's own page on 2026-09-16.
No admission price is published for this program; base library and youth programs of this kind are run free of charge for the base community.
The event page's own Details box gives the date as September 28, 4 to 9 PM, while the promotional text on the same page says Monday, October 16, 5 to 9 PM with setup at 4 PM. September 28 is the date to go by because it is a Monday, matching the page's own day-of-week label October 16 is a Friday. The organizer has not corrected the page.
Hurlburt Field is an active military installation the event page does not publish what a non-military family needs to get on base.
